Colonial Systems, Inc. of Wilmington, Mass., is pleased to announce the addition of James M. Phinney to the senior management team in the newly created position of director of quality assurance.
Colonial Systems provides installation, storage, asset management and delivery services for furniture, architectural, accessory and millwork products used in corporate, hospitality, institutional, retail and government interiors. A leading service provider in the Boston area, Colonial Systems has completed projects throughout New England and serves dealer and corporate clients located across the country and in Canada.
In his new role at Colonial Systems, Phinney will plan, direct and coordinate activities and design processes aimed at optimizing the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the company’s operations while maintaining the high quality standards which have earned national recognition for Colonial Systems. Currently, he is studying the potential for improving warehouse processes in conjunction with the recent expansion of the full-time warehouse staff by more than 100%.
“I believe Jim’s extensive expertise in facilities management and his process-driven approach are going to be instrumental in helping us take Colonial Systems to the next level,” said Gene Kosman, the company’s CEO. “Ultimately, we want every customer to view Colonial as their #1 choice, every time. With Jim’s input, we’re going to revise the performance standards wherever possible and make sure we hold to them.”
“Colonial is just the type of service-oriented situation I was looking for: a solid model with a proven track record,” Jim Phinney said. “Coming from the end user service business, it’s great being part of a company that not only understands the value of customer service but will allocate resources to the systems and training needed to support the best customer experience. I look forward to being a part of the team that drives Colonial Systems to the next level.”
Building on five years of HVAC system design and computer-aided drafting experience at VAV International, Phinney accepted a position in 2000 as a facilities designer at Fresenius Medical Care of North America (FMCNA), the worldwide provider of kidney dialysis services and renal care products based in Waltham, Mass.
Over the next 13 years, he performed in positions of progressively increasing responsibility at FMCNA, rising to senior facilities designer, corporate facilities specialist, corporate facilities manager and senior manager of corporate building operations and real estate.
In the senior manager position, which he held from April 2008 to December 2013, Phinney managed corporate facility and building operations in six states, developed and implemented a national facility maintenance program for corporate and clinical locations, directed a staff of nine facility specialists plus administrative and security personnel, and was responsible for overseeing the daily operation of more than 650,000 square feet of office and lab space in 11 corporate office locations.
Phinney holds a certificate in facilities management from Northeastern University and is working toward an associate degree in business management from Middlesex Community College. He is a member of the International Facility Management Association and the Building Owners and Managers Association.
Colonial Systems is a member of Facilities Services Network, an international association that promotes professionalism, high performance and best practices in the facility services segment of the contract furniture industry.
