Facing Extreme Time Pressure at Dodgers Stadium, EPI Said “Can Do”

Tuesday, 28 May 2013 in Environments Plus, Member Experience

Opening Day of the 2013 professional baseball season took on special significance for the operations staff at Environments Plus, Inc. (EPI) because it was the deadline for completion of the remodeling and refurnishing of the owners suite, players lounge, players locker room and staff offices at Dodgers Stadium.

Meeting the deadline for the furniture requirements kept a lot of people hopping at EPI. In the end, the project proved to be a great example of the Can Do attitude that’s integral to the culture of our FSN member based in San Fernando, California.

Project Overview

The project featured various high-end custom pieces of furniture along with a range of products from Allsteel, Gunlocke and Furniture Lab. Space planning, furniture specification and procurement and other project details were handled by the Business Interiors by Staples dealership in La Mirada.

Originally, the schedule allowed three days for EPI's activity, including on-site and warehouse receiving, re-delivery from the EPI warehouse and the hands-on installation work. However, continuing construction delays severely limited EPI's access to the job site, sending EPI's men home twice and ultimately compressing the time available for installation to about a day.

Workarounds became necessary on all fronts. Furniture deliveries originally planned for on-site receiving were redirected to EPI's warehouse. Additional manpower had to be assigned to make up for the now very small installation window. Additional truck rotations were needed to ensure that all the product being held at EPI's warehouse could be transported to the job site on time. And for those working on site, there was the challenge of staging, installing and applying the finishing touches to furniture while maneuvering around the activity of other trades as construction was wrapping up.

Despite the many challenges, EPI completed the project on time and on budget.

Customer Feedback

Business Interiors by Staples and Dodgers Management both said they were exceptionally pleased with EPI's flexibility in adapting to the constantly changing schedule and site conditions. The EPI team's Can Do attitude and ability to develop workarounds for the construction delays were especially appreciated.
